Is this your problem?
- Kitchen sink won't drain after cooking
- Floor trap backing up suddenly
- Shower standing in water mid-use
- Single toilet backing up when a sink drains
Unblocking is the emergency end of the same trade. A kitchen sink that won't drain after dinner, a floor trap backing up into the bathroom, a shower standing in water mid-use — we arrive, rod or jet the block, and flow-test before we pack up. No chemicals, no guessing, no "try this and come back tomorrow." The block is cleared on this visit, or we escalate to the next tier (sewer cleaning, or sewer repair if the line is collapsed) and quote that rate before continuing.
The Wellawatte meat-in-sink habit is our most common unblocking call in those streets: chicken bones, beef fat, and lamb scraps that no sink drain was built to take. Fibrous waste wraps impellers; fat sets cold in the bend. We clear it mechanically and tell you what not to put down next time — once is a clear, twice is a habit we'll be back for. Outside those areas, the usual culprits are hair in the shower, soap scum in the basin, and food scraps in the kitchen.
"A blocked drain clears itself if you leave it."
A block that eases has only moved — the same grease and hair pack tighter where no plunger reaches.
A drain that blocks twice in a month is a sewer-side problem — we reclassify and quote camera rates before continuing.
Cause
Grease, hair, and debris build a solid plug over months; chemicals compress it into a harder, more expensive block.
How We Fix It
Rod the blockage, jet the line if needed, flow-test at full tap; camera quoted if it keeps returning.
Find your cleanout before you need it — the outside access lets us rod straight to the block instead of through your floor.
A slow drain is a warning. Don't wait until it's completely blocked — that's when it becomes an emergency.
Half of all emergency blocks sit in the same two bends of the line — knowing which bend yours is decides whether we rod from the cleanout or through the floor.
What to Do Before We Arrive
- Stop pouring water down the affected drain — the standing level itself tells us where the block sits.
- Do not use caustic soda or drain crystals before we come — they burn skin, etch old pipe, and wash away the evidence.
- Remove the visible trap cover if you can do it safely — plenty of blocks are simply sitting in the trap.
- Tell us what went down: grease, hair, wipes, food — the culprit decides which tool we bring.
