Hard water scores cartridges and washer seats in a year or two; the drip you hear is the seat, not the handle. Over-torquing a dripping tap cracks the seat, and then the whole body is scrap — so the fix is strip, descale, replace to spec, test dry. A leak at the handle when the tap is open is the O-ring set: cheap, fast, done in the same visit.
The van carries the common cartridges and washers; exotic designer brands usually need a next-day part, and we say so on the call instead of pretending otherwise. Repair-versus-replace is decided by the seat: sound seat means repair, cracked seat means we quote replacement before touching anything.

Cause

How We Fix It
Strip the tap, descale the seat, replace cartridge/washer to spec, reassemble, test dry.
Know your tap brand. If it's a designer name, we'll need to source parts — cheaper taps use universal cartridges.

Cartridges fail from scale, not from branding — a hard-water seat wears any cartridge, which is why we descale the seat before fitting the new one.
What to Do Before We Arrive
- Note whether the drip is steady or random — a steady drip is usually a washer, an intermittent one points at the cartridge.
- Close the isolation valve under the sink if it leaks while open.
- Check for a brand stamped on the tap body — designer brands may need parts we source next-day.
- Leave the drip running until we see it if you can — watching the failure tells us cartridge or seat.
